Re: Religion vs Government

I dont want a state religion either.  There are denoms out there that think people shouldnt dance for crying out loud, or drink alcohol at all - NONE of which is found in the bible, BTW.

Re: Religion vs Government

I think the same thing more about gay marriage, especially with the whole fiasco in Maine.

But I dont really think it would damper religion.  I dunno.

You should of.

But seriously look at that. It saddens me

Also look in the past 250 years. Nearly every major war had to do with religion in some way/shape/form

Re: Religion vs Government

Ive never seen the logic in arguing religion.
Everyone believes something different, and in the end, theyre all just standing at different angles of the circle staring into the same thing: The fact that something has to justify the effed up world we live in and the individuals that make it that way.

Re: Religion vs Government

Just one of my random thoughts of the day. I was just pondering legalization as a whole for the United States. Yes, our own country, the land of the free and home of the brave. The one country that claims to be completely free of religion government separation. I feel a lot of people are religious because they are afraid of death. You can boil it down to that point from various angles, but thats all it comes down to in the end. The fear of death is perpetuated daily be the news, fear mongering, stereotypes, everything negative that is just natural human activity.

Anyways, my point is that if more people smoke and more peolpe smoke and eventually lets just say that 65-70 of the country starts smoking on somewhat of a regular basis. Will our nations views on religion change? I would most definitely say that perspective would change, a spirituality would be reawoken in the nation that may have been caprtured a few times before, but maybe once again it can re-emerge.

Personally, smoking for the first time I had a spiritual awakenment that Ive never had before, it was not too long after my grandfather died. At this time smoking opened a part of my curiousness about the world that I hadnt really ever experienced anymore. At this point in my life, my attitude definitely changed but not until more recently with more usage have I really come to understand the differences in attitude, and perspective.

Anyways, this brings me to another point. I would tend to think that religious circles could possibly already know this information, and may be a reason why they dont want people to expand their mind because that would go against everything theyve been teaching for the last couple hundred of years. If you break the mold and have a thought in your head that is actually your own, then their institution is jeopardized just that little much more. I think if we could legalize or atleast decriminalize mary jane, and over a decade or so the publics opinion on life and religion and the perspective of things around them could change greatly. Maybe.

Re: Religion vs Government

I dont know how the 1st Amendment could be any clearer.  The government will not create a specific religion, and everyone is free to practice any religion they want or none if they so choose.

The only problem for me is how the left has hijacked the whole separation of church and state issue over the years leading to the current absurdities.  Hopefully when conservative thought reigns the Supreme Court shortly theyll set about clearing up all this nonsense.

Re: Religion vs Government

Desperate people will clutch at any straw, it doesnt make you a believer though. A solid 26 who dont pray even when desperate is more telling about how many people dont have faith.

Re: Religion vs Government

I believe that religion has to be separate from government. Religion corrupts power as much as anything. Might as well have something that isnt a fundamentalist in religion since with all the other religions out there, you offend a lot more than if you were in Theocracy.

This thing is sticky, and I dont like it. I dont appreciate it.

Re: Religion vs Government

Oh, whatever. If religion starts dying, Ill just convert again and have the priestess go on a "witch hunt" even though trinitism uses magic.

By witch, I mean atheist. Allah hates them.
